The German Style Helmet

Remember the first time you saw one? It’s a real head turner! The German helmet has been popular with American riders for a number of years but have you given any thought to its origin? Well, read on….

Fashioned after World War One and World War Two German Army battle helmets, the German motorcycle helmets do not stray far from the original design. They look a lot like the half shell of a turtle and typically do not come with a face shield. (Although you can special order a shield.) What sets it apart from a turtle shell are the variety of colors and the chin strap. Black is a very popular color although female riders often opt for pink helmets. Chrome German motorcycle helmets are available and add a certain flair.

Once only available as a novelty item and was typically worn to set the extraordinary motorcycle rider apart from the rest of the crowd. However, today there are German motorcycle helmets approved by the D.O.T. for use in motorcycle riding.
